How can one define dark thoughts?
Thoughts of depression,
Thoughts of giving up,
Thoughts of becoming a burden to parents,
Thoughts of not waking up the following day,
These thoughts are dark, and it's not OK to feel this way, and one needs to ask for help.
Like many things in life, negativity, too, can become a habit. Frequent criticism, negative thoughts, and denial can create neural pathways in the brain that encourage sadness. These negative tendencies can cause our brain to distort the truth and make it even more challenging to break the negative cycle.
A person with mental illness is always helpless and does not always know' how to ask for help.’ One should, therefore, always have a trustworthy person who can show them the right path or consult a psychologist. A psychologist will not fix you but will let you know your problem and help you deal with it.
Negative thoughts and emotions are a natural response to disaster and heartache. But extended bouts of negativity can result in serious health problems. Negativity sends our body into stress or ‘fight-or-flight’ mode. Our bodies are designed to deal with stressful situations by releasing cortisol into the bloodstream, making you more alert and focused. Though some stress is good for us, too much can be detrimental to our health. Extended periods of slow negativity affects digestion and decreases the immune system’s ability to fight inflammation. " I know this is difficult to accept and apply in real life, but as someone who has been through depression and anxiety. But professional help will always be the best option for one's recovery from dark thoughts."
Dark thoughts are short-lived if one doesn't give much importance to them, and a doctor will greatly support this journey of hope.
1. Focus on what you are feeling right now and act accordingly.
Feelings and moods change as time passes. A negative thought can linger but only until you let it go.
2. Share your feelings with your close people.
Talking about your feelings or problems with someone else helps you keep those thoughts in perspective. It helps make you feel relieved, like the saying “sharing your burden with someone reduces yours.”
3. Pamper yourself
Take a break or some time off and indulge yourself in activities or something you enjoy doing or makes you feel relaxed.
4. Take time to count the number of your blessings.
It is good to remember the good times or people who are there to support you.
5. Eat well.
Eating well is necessary. Due to the negative thoughts, your body may be affected, so you need to be physically fit so you don’t fall ill or weak and can fight the battle with your negative thoughts.
6. Socialize more.
Socializing with people creates excellent contacts for you. You may find your pillars of support or strength within a few people. You can share your thoughts or divert your mind by talking about something as well.
