“The earth we abuse and the living things we kill will, in the end, take their revenge. For in exploiting their presence, we are diminishing our future.” = Marya Mannes
Mother Nature always tries to give the best to their children i.e. Us. But, what have we humans done for our mother earth?
Just overused its gifts, exploiting it all the time. Instead of giving it the return gift, we have always given its pain and suffering in one or the other way. But, there is a limit until something can be tolerated. We, as children of mother earth, have forgotten its importance and have started exploiting it regularly. But, it very well knows how to teach a lesson to us. One of the ways is Landslides during Monsoon.
Landslide is defined as the movement of the mass of rock, debris, or earth down a slope. Landslides can be initiated in slopes already on the verge of movement by excess rainfall, snowmelt, change in water level, stream erosion, change in ground water level, earthquakes, volcanic activity, disturbances by human activities, or any combination of these factors. We can clearly see that most of these causes are man-made and are due to the overexploitation of resources and the global warming that causes irregular weather cycles.
Landslides have always been deadly for humans. It has taken away a lot of people away. At least 112 people have died in the state of Maharashtra due to landslides in low-lying areas. Landslides happened in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand too that took away a lot of lives of the residents as well as the tourists.
Nature has given us a lot and it demands just love, respect, and care in return instead of exploiting its resources. So, we really need to understand what is good and what is bad for our mother nature and need to take care of it so that it takes care of us in return.
